Alice Vance is an emerging set & costume designer for stage and screen. Her design practice is driven by a love of vintage charm and draws from an artistic focus. Alice seeks to entice audiences with detail to invite a second look and surprise through a playful, yet conceptual approach. Alice’s work is rooted in her passion for people, and eagerness to create an impact.  

Her design credits include Set & Props design for NIDA student productions: Orpheus in the Underworld, Dance Nation; Costume design for student productions at NIDA: Dance Nation, Photograph 51. Production and costume design for triple J x NIDA music video: “London” by chloe: the brand. Alice additionally co-directed and wrote for the NIDA Design for Performance Campaign: “Feed your creativity, Find your place”.

Dance Nation is a contemporary play that follows the journeys of young women and the compelling relationships that accompany growing up. The play has a strong heart but commands focus with comedy and many a dance break.

The design was created from the restriction of a low budget, but need to create multiple spaces across the large theatre. We constructed the curtains ourselves and created costumes through stock, sourcing from op shops and making ourselves. NOVEMBER 2024
